photo #3, on the left Considered the signature event of the Victorian Festival, the 12th annual Victorian Festival Grand Ball provides an opportunity for all Festival participants to don their elegant Victorian attire and dance to one of the region's premiere vintage dance music bands.     Participants can show off their costuming, dance quadrilles, polkas, and even a waltz - the scandalous new dance of the period in which women are pulled into the arms of their male dance partner!

The ballroom will be adorned with period elegance for the evening event scheduled for Saturday May 3 from 8-11 PM.    Both beginning and experienced dancers will revel in an evening of romantic music and elegant social dancing as they are transported back to the mid-19th century.    Knowledgeable dance callers will make all the dance steps flow and lead the incomparable first dance - the traditional Grand March - accompanied by the extraordinary sound of the twenty-member Cornucopia Band from Seattle. photo #4, on the right

Tired or over-stimulated dancers may take refreshment from a fine assemblage of beverages provided at a well-stocked no-host bar that features local brews and Washington wines, all available for purchase.    There will be ample seating for resting and enjoying the sights and sounds inside this beautiful historic Victorian - era chapel.

Any historic fashions, civilian or military, as worn during the 19th century are suitable.    Military men with either swords or spurs will be required to surrender them at the door for the safety of those gathered.    Victorian attire is definitely not required though encouraged.    Oval hoop-skirted (more hoop in the back than in the front) ball gowns were the standard for this mid-19th century affair though later 19th century puffy sleeves and bustles are quite acceptable too.

Watch for local workshops on fashioning your own Victorian ensembles and on Victorian dance in the week prior to the Festival.    Costumes are encouraged but absolutely not required.     For those skilled and brave souls who have made their own Victorian gown or finery our Best Costume Creation Contest will be awarding prizes toward the end of the evening.

Professional photography will be available for purchase as a remembrance of this spirited evening. Your image will be preserved as though you were in a traditional Victorian parlor setting.

The cost of an entry ticket is $20 per person.   Please join us for this major fundraising event that benefits the Jefferson County Historical Society, its projects and museum.
