On Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 4th 11:00 to 4:00 the Rothschild House Park lawn will provide continuous old fashioned games.

During the Victorian Festival youngsters and the young at heart can enjoy some "Old Time Fun". A variety of Victorian games and past time activities will be provided.

Come pass the time away with croquet, badminton, rolling hoops, jacks, carroms, checkers, hopscotch and more! Something for everyone.

  • *Rolling Hoop- during the Victorian times both wood and metal hoops were favorite playthings. Children rolled, raced, twirled and skipped with their hoops.

  • *Carrom - Invented by Henry Haskell in 1889 is a board game that was the forerunner of pool. A square wooden board with four corner pockets - players flick a carrom"striker" disc with their fingers attempting to get the carrom disc into the pockets.

  • *Croquet - Invented in 1851 - became very popular in 1860's. Garden parties where often named "Croquet Parties". 1868 saw the formation of the "All English Croquet Club" then the All English Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club". Victorian women, men and children all enjoyed hours of croquet playing.

  • *Hopscotch, marbles, jacks, pick-up-sticks, blind man's bluff, rolling hoop, and game of graces are among the old fashioned activities/games played by children during the 1800's. Victorian children enjoyed simple, inventive and whimsical games.
