The gentlemen in the historical photo from the archives of the Jefferson County Historical Society were members of a group called the "Progressive Age Club".
The organization appears to have been made up of all young men of the community in their 20's.
The photo, taken in 1895 shows a card game in progress (complete with a spittoon nearby). Those in the photo include from left to right:
- Francis Lee Bash, the U.S. Shipping Commissioner and the son of the builders of the Victorian home on 'F' Street, now the English Inn Bed and Breakfast.
- J. M. Potter. Assistant cashier at the Commercial Bank
- Charles G. Campbell, Deputy County Treasurer (and brother-in-law to Bash)
- A. Francis Hayden, bookkeeper at the 1st National Bank (age 21)
- D. Carroll Conover, County Clerk.
